Casa Mariposas - Location

Axarquia

Axarquia is a rural region of Andalucia, north of Torre del Mar, east of Malaga. It marks the eastern edge of the Costa del Sol, but in contrast to that crowded strip, remains largely unspoilt - the economy based on agriculture and rural tourism.
The area boasts spectacular scenery with great hiking.

Torre del Mar

Torre del Mar is very much a Spanish seaside resort, a working town that hasn't suffered the encroachment of tacky tourist bars and restaurants. In Torre centre you'll find an excellent English-owned bookshop which features hiking maps and guides for the Axarquia region; plus numerous small shops and some excellent Spanish restaurants. On the northern edge of Torre on the motorway junction, there is a retail park featuring a huge supermarket and a department store.

Puente de Don Manuel

The original village is clustered around the bridge, but has grown out in all directions. In the older part is Miguel's supermarket, where you can find all your day-to-day needs; along with another grocery store, and a bar. On the main road to Zafarraya at the junction with the Periana road there is a small centre with shops, bars and restaurants (Bar Sara and Ortigosa are both excellent), plus a superb butchers shop. There is a newly-opened bakery next to Ortigosa.

on the left leads up to the Granada plateau.
